Kenya,Nairobi
The People’s Loyal Coalition has issued a strong statement, accusing President William Ruto’s administration of manipulating the recruitment process for IEBC commissioners to establish a biased electoral body and influence future elections. The coalition criticized the shortlisting of candidates with close ties to the ruling UDA party and the opposition ODM, including Ms. Joy Midivo and President Ruto’s personal lawyer. They also raised concerns over the alleged involvement of the National Intelligence Service (NIS) in the selection process. Emphasizing the need for transparency and adherence to constitutional principles, they demanded a fair and impartial recruitment process.
Beyond electoral concerns, the coalition also condemned what it described as illegal early campaigns by UDA and ODM, accusing the ruling coalition of misusing state resources to fund political rallies and incite violence through state-backed groups. As political focus shifts toward the Mount Kenya region, the coalition urged local residents to remain peaceful and resist any attempts at provocation.
On land issues, the coalition rejected Nairobi City County’s designation of the Nairobi River Corridor as a Special Planning Area (SPA), warning that the decision could threaten private property rights and disrupt the city’s demographic balance. Vowing to challenge these actions through legal means and mass protests, the coalition reaffirmed its commitment to defending electoral integrity, democracy, and the rights of all Kenyans.
